Ruination

this house is the gateway
rotten in time
silent battles occur
distant signals are received
darkness has descended
Ashley Westwood’s paintings are derived from childhood memories, dreams and the idea of the ‘void’, i.e. states between life and death, hypnagogia, etc. Her work stems from growing up exposed to trapping culture and contemplating what spirit residue might remain in this world as a result of unnatural death. The paintings are a continuous exploration of these phenomena and what might occur in the ‘void’ due to some sort of history or trauma, as well as the lingering effects that can be felt in waking life.
Ashley Westwood is a Reno-based visual artist, working primarily in the watercolor medium. Ashley has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Reno and the Bay Area and has been a member of the Holland Project Gallery Committee on and off since 2011. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Reno.
